Athlete Essentials: Hair Care for an Active Lifestyle

Today was just one of those days.

Woke up with serious bed head to more gloomy weather, and just a low feeling.

The last couple of days have been a little bit stressful and jam packed with phone calls, laundry, and cleaning - all the things us active individuals would most likely prefer not to do. Needless to say, I needed a boost of energy.

So, I decided to do something fun to my hair that I haven’t done in a while. With the help of my amazing Dry Shampoo of course! ‘Cause #SweatyHairDon’tHair especially when I have the perfect fix ;)

Being an active individual has it’s ups and downs, but I have some great tips for keeping your hair healthy and feeling great. Apparently, sweat can do some damage. How much damage? Not too sure, but what I do know is that sweating releases tons of waste and salts from the body which means your hair and scalp can get dried out pretty quickly after sweating. Ever notice that beach-like, just came out of the ocean, hair feeling after a good workout? It’s rewarding and gross all at the same time.

  1. Try to avoid taking steamy hot showers - too much heat can severely dry out your hair creating more damage. Instead, take a warm shower and take your final rinse off with cold water to close the cuticle after your hair is washed to seal in the shine and smooth it out.

2. Don’t wash your hair every day - I know, it sounds horrible. Overusing shampoo and conditioner (especially with brands who use heavy amounts of unnecessary added chemicals) can actually have the opposite result that you’re looking for. Especially if you’re prone to dry hair, naturally, a full wash 2-3 times per week can be more beneficial in keeping your hair hydrated. By the way, ladies, this is where dry shampoo comes in super handy! As a matter of fact, my favorite brand of hair care right now is Love Beauty and Planet. This carbon conscious company is all about preserving our Planet while delivering amazing products that work awesome without unnecessary damaging chemicals. Even better, you can find them over at Target for an incredible price ;) Check them out!

Last but not least…

3. Try a scalp massage! Sounds weird but also very enticing - you’d be suprised how amazing it feels if you’ve never experienced this. You can easily do it yourself right in the shower while you shampoo your hair. Massage in general increases circulation to the area, promoting blood flow, healing, reduced inflammation. Therefore, a scalp massage will definitely do the same, PLUS increased blood flow to your hair follicles can give your roots a nice boost and even promote hair growth!

Keeping your hair healthy might take some getting used to, but just like everything else it takes practice, consistency, and determination!

Don’t let that two-day-old hair get in the way of your activities or your mood, just spruce it up for a little extra pep in your step <3
